POLICE LOG: Police Investigating Two Shoplifting Reports

The Falls Church police department supplied the following incident and arrest information. It does not indicate a conviction.

City of Falls Church Police investigated two separate shoplifting reports within five days and took one person into custody.

Ligia J. Herrera Betbeder, 53, of Falls Church, was charged with shoplifting of merchandise after reportedly being caught stealing in the Giant Foods in the 1200 block of W. Broad St. on Jan. 27, according to police. Police did not say what she was caught allegedly stealing.

Police are still looking for another alleged shoplifting suspect.

On Jan. 23, an unknown person took items from the Nourish Market in the 1000 block of W. Broad St. and fled.

Anyone with information in either case is asked to contact police.

In separate and unrelated incidents:

John E. Shorts, Jr., 47, of Front Royal, was charged with a reported noise violation in the 6600 block of Wilson Blvd. on Jan. 22.

Set Tran, 50, of Falls Church, was charged with smoking in a non-designated area in the 6700 block of Wilson Blvd. on Jan. 24. Police also charged Au T. Ong, 28, of Falls Church, with permitting smoking in a non-designated area.

Jose Ventura Portillo, 25, of Fairfax, was charged with driving under the influence, eluding law enforcement and refusal to submit to block or breath test, in the 100 block of Liberty Ave. on Jan. 25.

Brandon J. Norris, 25, of Lexington Park, MD, was charged with public drunkenness in the 200 block of N. Washington St. on Jan. 26.
