UPDATE: Police Call Off Search of Lake Barcroft After 911 Call

Person who called 911 told police they saw someone in the lake who was "in distress."

UPDATE Tuesday 6:50 a.m.: Officers from Fairfax County Police and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue have called off a search at Lake Barcroft after a 911 call Monday night at about 6:30 p.m. reporting a person in distress in the water, a spokesman for police said Tuesday morning.

Officers have left the area near Beachway Drive at the lake after an hours-long search that included officers exploring the lake by boat and canvassing the neighborhood to see if any neighbors were reporting someone missing.

Fairfax County Police are on the scene Monday night at Lake Barcroft searching for a possible missing person in the water, according to a spokeswoman from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. Both police and fire officials are on the scene.

"What happened was a call came in at approximately 6:30 this evening for a person in distress," said Public Information Officer Renee Stilwell, with Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. The area is near 6100 Beachway Drive.

"They called 911," she said. After police arrived, they put the boat in the water, [and a helicopter] Fairfax 1, is searching from the air." Stilwell said police are also canvassing the neighborhood to see if anyone is missing.

As of 9 p.m. Monday "they don't even know if they're looking for an adult or a child," Stilwell said. "As far I know, no one is reported missing."
