UPDATE Friday,12:50 p.m.:

Repairs for a water main break and sinkhole have "persisted a bit longer than anticipated," in the Seven Corners area Friday, according to Fairfax Water.

The roadway is blocked on Route 50 heading east near Route 7.

The repair to the pipe is complete. "Crews are backfilling the road now – the rain this morning slowed the process a bit," said Fairfax Water spokeswoman Jeanne Bailey.

The road should be clear by about 2 p.m. Friday, she said.

If you travel through the Seven Corners area of Bailey's Crossroads as part of your morning commute, an apparent sinkhole may have slowed traffic Friday morning.

The Washington Post reports that a sinkhole created by a water main break closed down Route 50 east near the ramp that leads to Route 7.

Jeanne Bailey, spokeswoman for Fairfax Water, told the newspaper that repairs were expected to be completed by 10 a.m. Friday.
