'Warrant Services' Scam Hits Falls Church

Sheriff's deputies are not calling residents asking for money or threatening arrest.

Falls Church residents should be wary of any phone calls demanding a payment to avoid arrest.

Scam artists reportedly have been calling residents, identifying themselves as employees of the City of Falls Church Sheriff's "Warrant Services" department and demanding a payment to avoid arrest.

If it sounds familiar, this scam is very similar to an ongoing scam in Fairfax County, in which people are told that they failed to appear for jury duty and must pay a court fee to avoid arrest.

"The City of Falls Church Sheriff's Office is in no way associated with this scam. Sheriff's deputies do NOT call residents asking for money or threatening arrest," Falls Church officials said in a release.

City police officials remind residents not to give out personal information over the phone to unknown callers, particularly a Social Security Number, bank account or credit card information, passwords or other private information.
