WEEK IN REVIEW: Falls Church Sets New Voter Turnout Record

Police looking for a man who attacked a woman inside a Falls Church library.

The nation watched as President Barack Obama was re-elected Tuesday but locally, City of Falls Church residents turned out to the polls in record numbers.

David Bjerke, general registrar for the City of Falls Church, said in 2008 about 82 percent of the city’s registered voters cast ballots. This year, more than 87 percent of the city’s voters cast ballots.

Officials from the City of Falls Church and Fairfax County met last week to talk about selling Falls Church Water to the county’s water system but those talks only produced more future meetings with no resolution.

Dozens of law enforcement officers and community residents attended a retirement ceremony for City of Falls Church Police Chief Harry Reitze. Reitze was with the department for 37 years.

City police are still looking for the man they believe sexually assaulted a Falls Church woman in October. Police believe the man matches the same description of a man wanted in Fairfax County for involvement in similar acts.

Fairfax County police are looking for a man they believe attacked a 17-year-old woman in the Thomas Jefferson Library. The man fled when the woman allegedly kicked him and yelled.
