Falls Church Votes for Chopra by 93 Votes in Virginia Democratic Primary

Falls Church residents buck the statewide trend in votes for lieutenant governor. See ward-by-ward results for the City of Falls Church here.

The City of Falls Church went for Aneesh Chopra Tuesday as their candidate in Virginia’s lieutenant governor’s race.

But unlike Falls Church, voters in other parts of the state chose Sen. Ralph Northam (D-Norfolk) to join Terry McAuliffe on the Democratic ticket in November.

City voters chose Chopra over Northam 390 to 297. According to the unofficial numbers from the city, there are 9,108 registered voters but only 690 of them voted Tuesday. That's a turn-out rate of about 7.5 percent.

The city also went in favor of Mark R. Herring for attorney general over Justin E. Fairfax 450-215. Herring won the nomination 

Early Tuesday, David Bjerke, general registrar for the city, said he didn’t expect to see more than 500 people vote in the Democratic Primary.
