City Sends Out Invitations to Bid on Water System

Pre-bid meeting to be held April 23 at City Hall.

Invitations to bid on Falls Church Water were sent out Wednesday.

All interested entities have the opportunity to purchase the water system and the grant of a 40-year easement for water system facilities on public property. Falls Church city during Monday night’s meeting to allow City Manager Wyatt Shields to invite public and private utility companies to bid on the water system.

Bids less than $44 million will not be accepted. Vice Mayor David Snyder, who opposes the sale of the water company, said he could not live with the proposed minimum proposed bid.

An optional pre-bid meeting will be held on April 23 at 10 a.m. in council chambers in City Hall. Potential bidders may ask questions, examine records, and make arrangements for tours and inspections of facilities.

Sealed bids from public and privately owned utility companies are due May 25.City residents will vote on a referendum on Nov. 6 regarding the sale of the water company. Council reserves the right to reject all bids, Shields said.
