Del. Marcus Simon's Proposed Law Outlawing 'Revenge Porn' to be Considered Wednesday in Richmond

Falls Church delegate's bills to be heard in House subcommittees.

Delegate Marcus Simon's HB 49, which makes it a crime to publish sexually explicit pictures of someone: 1) without their permission and 2) with the intent to cause them substantial emotional distress, will be heard Wednesday in the Criminal Subcommittee of the House Committee on Courts of Justice.

The Subcommittee will meet upon adjournment of the House in House Room C in the General Assembly Building. Delegate Simon's HB 935, creates a civil cause of action against anyone who posts this type of content, making them liable to the person for $10,000.00 in damages or three times the actual damage suffered, whichever is greater, plus attorney’s costs and fees.

This bill will also be heard Wednesday in the Civil Subcommittee of the House Committee on Courts of Justice. The Subcommittee will meet upon adjournment of the House in House Room 1 in the Capitol Building.
