Falls Church City Brush Fee Waiver Ends Wednesday

City waived collection fee during clean up after Derecho storm blew through Falls Church.

City of Falls Church residents are still cleaning up after the derecho that blew through Northern Virginia more than a week ago, and through Wednesday, there’s no need to label extra brush bags.

The brush collection fee waiver will end after Wednesday’s pickup. Susan Finarelli, spokeswoman for the city, said work crews removed bundled brush for five days prior to their regular pickups.

“We want to make sure residents and businesses understand that waiving the excess trash and brush fees is a rare instance and not something to be counted on after storms,” Finarelli said. “The fees are reinstated after this Wednesday.”

Finarelli said the city picked up 14.6 tons of brush on the Fourth of July alone. Crews picked up 20 tons of brush in all of July, she said. There are no numbers on how much trash was picked up during the storm clean up. Finarelli said those numbers will not be ready until September.
