Gingrich, Perry Won’t Be On Virginia Primary Ballots

The names of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Gov. Rick Perry will not be on the March 6 presidential primary ballots in Virginia, according to a Bloomberg story Saturday.

According to Bloomberg, neither candidate submitted the required 10,000 valid signatures to get on primary ballot. Both candidate’s campaigns reportedly filed more than 11,000 signatures Thursday to meet the 10,000-signature requirement, but the party ruled late Friday, after working to verify the petitions, that not enough of the signatures were valid, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Both the WSJ and CNN said not having his name on his home state’s ballot is a setback for the Gingrich campaign.

According to MSNBC, a Quinnipiac poll of Virginia Republicans released earlier in the week suggested that Gingrich had a slight lead over Mitt Romney.

Gingrich made on Wednesday.
