Grant Will Buy New Hoses for Volunteer Fire Company

Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department will buy 1,200 in new hoses with grant funds.

The Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department received a gift last week that will help them buy more than 1,000 feet of new fire hoses.

The $5,000 grant, through Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA) and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, was presented Thursday at the firehouse. The volunteer department will replace large diameter hoses for their front line engine.

“These funds, in essence, are going to greatly enhance our department’s ability to provide an effective water supply to our crews battling various types of fires,” Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Paul Schomburg said in a written statement. “Our current hose is old and outdated while the new hose is stronger and more reliable.  This brings safety to both our crews and citizens.”
