Meet the Candidate: Theo Stamos

Stamos eyeing Commonwealth's Attorney seat in Tuesday's primary. The office has jurisdiction over Arlington and Falls Church.

With sitting Commonwealth's Attorney Richard Trodden not running for re-election and no Republican candidates seeking the seat, the race comes down to Democratic candidates .

Voting for the primary is Tuesday. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Occupation: Chief deputy, Arlington County Commonwealth's Attorney Office

Past political experience: Stamos has served in the local Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney for 25 years. Since 2002, she has served as the chief deputy to sitting Commonwealth's Attorney Richard Trodden. Stamos served two terms as an elected member of the Virginia State Bar’s governing body, where she was asked to serve on the bar’s executive committee.

Top three issues:

  • Advocating for adequate resources to allow the court system to operate efficiently and without undue delay, and articulating the impact any plans to reduce the number of judges serving Arlington County would have on the community.
  • Working with Arlington County social service providers, the courts, and the public defender to ensure those convicted of drug possession continue receiving treatment and probation rather than incarceration. 
  • Expanding outreach to communities that may feel reluctant to report crimes.
