Virginia Voter Registration Deadline Monday

Here's information on how to register to vote in Virginia. Make sure you are registered or your current registration is valid before the Oct. 15 deadline.

If you haven’t yet registered to vote, the deadline is just a few days away.

Virginia officials have mailed out more than 4.6 million voter registration cards to residents. The State Board of Elections is telling voters who have not received a voter registration card to check their registration record at www.SBE.Virginia.gov.

Nationwide, an estimated six million people didn’t vote in the 2008 elections because they either did not know how to register or because they missed the voter registration deadline.

The voter registration deadline in Virginia this year is Monday.

Fairfax County's website has a lot of useful information for people who need to register or have questions about whether their current voter registration is valid. If you have moved from the address on your voter registration card or changed your name, you need to re-register. (Instructions on how to do so are here.)

Here’s information on how residents can register in time for the Nov. 6 elections:

  • Fill out a voter registration form in person at the Fairfax County Office of Elections, 12000 Government Center Pkwy., Suite 323 in Fairfax. The hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.You can call 703-324-4700 for 24-hour recorded information.
