WEEK IN REVIEW: Downward Trend in Murder-Suicides in Virginia Spark Interest

With two murder-suicides in Northern Virginia last week – one each in Oakton and Arlington – the two week in the area is three with one in Falls Church two weeks ago. Police are still investigating the incidents but Patch was able to find out there is a decline in murder-suicides in the commonwealth overall.

The man at the center of a 28-hour June police standoff appeared in court for the first time last week. James Rackowski will next appear in Arlington County Circuit Court on Aug. 23.

The Olympics kicked off Friday and several Falls Church restaurants and bars have opened their doors to fans of the games. Countrymen and women are able to venture into the locations throughout the Olympics.

With Ramadan underway, a Falls Church mosque has opened its doors to the public for a last week. The mosque will hold diversity-based programs each Wednesday evening throughout Ramadan.
