WEEK IN REVIEW: President Obama Stops by Falls Church

Falls Church dealt with death of a local college student who was a JEB Stuart High alum.

President Barack Obama made his way to Falls Church last week to meet with a family to discuss how the “fiscal cliff” would affect them. The president also filmed the meeting to serve in part of his efforts to sway public opinion and pressure Congress to come to a resolution.

The Falls Church and JEB Stuart High communities were devastated to learn of the death of University of Virginia senior Casey Schulman. Schulman was killed in a snorkeling accident while participating in the Semester at Sea program.

For a second time this year, a sewage leak canceled classes at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. Falls Church City Public Schools officials said the two leaks were not connected and they will keep a close check on the sewage system throughout the year.

A Falls Church woman was ordered to retract some of her statements on Yelp! that she posted on the website about a contractor. Jane Perez, according to the New York Post, wrote angry reviews on Yelp and Angie’s List alleging contractor Christopher Dietz stole jewelry from her home and caused about $15,000 in damages to her home.

In sports, two JEB Stuart High volleyball players picked up district awards and a baseball player at George Marshall High signed a scholarship offer to play baseball at James Madison University.
