As the March 1 sequestration deadline approaches, Falls Church resident and Northrop Grumman employee Robert Foster is starting to spend less in preparation for possible budget cuts.

City Council and the Planning Commission held a joint meeting Tuesday to discuss the details of the possible Harris Teeter in the heart of the city. The developer displayed plans of the eight-story building that would include the supermarket chain, other retail and housing.

For almost 50 years, Herman “Smitty” Smith has cut hair in Falls Church and 30 years ago, he took over the shop that bares his name. He says the barbershop is and has always been the place in the African American community that has always been the meeting place.

The City of Falls Church Police Department unveiled their new cruiser Saturday and say they will put it on the street starting Monday. The car doesn’t look like the other cars in the fleet, with its traditional black and white paint job, but it has all of the same equipment inside.
