Falls Church High Students Learn Importance of Responsible Driving

Five students attended statewide leadership retreat in Lynchburg.

sent a six-person contingent to the Youth of Virginia Speak Out in July.

The five students and teacher were among more than 200 people statewide who traveled to Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Va., for four days to learn how to be responsible drivers.

Colleen Lally, the school’s Health and Physical Education Department chair, said the four-day visit educates, encourages and empowers teens to become traffic safety advocates since traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for young adults between the ages of 16 and 20.

Students also participated in interactive sessions such as crime scene investigation, reconstructing a crash scene and organ donation.

Lally said "driving to stay alive" is an important message for everyone.
