Falls Church High Swimmer Makes Splash at State Competition

Laura Schwartz finishes in top 10 in two events.

Laura Schwartz medaled in two different events at the AAA State Swim competition over the weekend at George Mason University. The Falls Church High School junior also took up spots in the elite top 10.

Schwartz took third place in the 500 Freestyle and fifth place in the 200 Individual Medley.

Schwartz has been on a record-breaking spree at FCHS. Currently, Schwartz’s name is on the record board for seven out of the 12 different events that the district and school holds records for, all of which she started accomplishing during her freshman year.

She has since gone on to break her own records, both in individual and team relay events. Schwartz has had support in her success as well, as she has a strong backing of talent with her teammates including her sister, Julia Schwartz.

The relay team of Haley McLean, Sydney Langer, Julia and Laura Schwartz broke two school records this year for the 4 x 100 Free Relay and the 4 x 50 Free Relay. The foursome went on together at states to compete in the 4 x 50 Free Relay, while Schwartz also competed in the 500 Freestyle.

She finished 5th in the state.

Schwartz has been a leader both in the pool and in the classroom. Her attention to academics combined with her dedication to team performance and giving her personal best has made her a standout student-athlete.
