FCCPS Board Member Aguerrebere Resigns

Aguerrebere spent the last six years on the school board and is leaving for California.

After six years on the Falls Church City Public Schools Board, Rosaura Aguerrebere is heading west.

Aguerrebere, whose last official day on the board is Aug. 24, said she and her family are moving to California. With her youngest child entering college this year and three other children living in California, she said it is the right time for the move.

“We woke up a week ago and I asked my husband where he’d rather be and he said he’d rather be in California,” Aguerrebere said.

Aguerrebere, who is originally from the West Coast, has spent the last 18 years in the east. She said she will miss her fellow board members, but is glad she was able to experience several victories in her six-years. Seeing the IB program implemented on the middle school level and seeing the graduation rate at ranked best in the state were some of her proud moments as a board member.

Toni Jones, superintendent of the school system, said it has been a privilege to have Aguerrebere on the school board.  Jones called Aguerrebere a gifted educator in her own right, and said she has always sought to tackle every issue through the lens of a teacher, and the eyes of a child.

The board has started the process to replace Aguerrebere and will provide those interested with requirements needed to be considered for the position.

“Rosaura will be deeply missed,” Jones said.
