FCCPS School Board Accepting Interest Letters to Fill Open Spot

Letters must be received by noon Jan. 18.

When Falls Church City Public Schools Board Chair in December, it left the board a position short of their usual seven members.

Tuesday at their meeting, the board agreed to accept letters of interest from local residents to fill the position. According to an FCCPS release, citizens interested must be a qualified voter and bona fide resident of the City of Falls Church and cannot be a Falls Church City Public Schools employee.

  • have experience with and knowledge of the Falls Church City Public Schools;
  • be a strong advocate for our schools and the importance of a world class education for every child;
  • be collaborative, seeking out and listening to the perspectives of all members of the school community;
  • understand and have experience with the FCCPS budgeting process; and
  • have knowledge of educational best practices and research.

Letters must be received by noon Jan. 18 and should answer the following questions:

  • Why are you applying for the interim school board position?
  • What do you see as the key issues facing the school board?
  • On what school division advisory boards, committees, or SAOs have you served previously, if any?
  • What other expertise or experience do you bring to the school board?
  • What is your understanding of the job of a school board member and the time commitment involved?
