FCCPS Superintendent Celebrates First Year and New Appointment

Toni Jones named co-chair for the Virginia School Board Association Virtual Learning Task Force.

Toni Jones has only been at the helm of the Falls Church City Public Schools for a year, but already she’s been taking big strides.

Most recently, Jones was named co-chair for the Virginia School Board Association’s Virtual Learning Task Force. The eight member task force, composed of superintendents and school board members from around Virginia, will review best practices in other states and schools, as well as relevant Virginia laws and regulations applicable to virtual learning before sending new state and local policy framework recommendations forward.

“I was very excited when I found out I was named to the task force,” Jones said. “It was an application process and the VSBA notified all of the superintendents and board members about the openings.”

Jones—who has a doctorate in education—said the task force met this week during the VSBA conference and has other meetings planned. For the most part, she said, because the group focuses on virtual learning, most of their work will be done online. Jones said the group has several portals already developed where their work is stored. The task force is charged with the goal of developing an interim written report by Oct. 4 for the VSBA Board of Directors.

July marked a year on the job for Jones. The superintendent said she had fun during her first year running the school district and is looking forward to the future.
