FCEF Gearing Up For Run for the Schools 5K

Race raises money for Falls Church Education Foundation to support school programs.

The is ready for their seventh annual Run for the Schools 5K Race and 1 Mile Family Fun Run/Walk on Sept. 16.

Donna Englander, executive director, said the foundation is expecting 500 runners, 100 more than last year. She said the foundation is accepting early bird registration through Aug. 10. Participants can take part in the 5K run or the one-mile family fun run/walk.

“People can run as an individual or as a team as long as they have four people,” Englander said.

The race raises money to support school programs supported by the foundation including the SIRSTS Lego League. The event will be part of the Fall Festival Weekend in in the City of Falls Church. Englander said several community groups and corporations, including Apple Federal Credit Union, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Caliber CPA Group and Dominion Jewelers have already made sizeable donations.

Englander said participants will receive a race packet including a timing tag and T-shirt and at the conclusion of the race, everyone is invited to the awards ceremony. Family fun activities including face painting and a dunk tank will be there, she said.
