“Joel Block is a teacher our students will always remember and appreciate,” FCCPS Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones said on the school system’s website. “We are so happy to celebrate this award with him. Joel is a consummate professional; a leader in the classroom, the school and the community.”

According to the school system’s website, the award is presented to one teacher from each of the 19 metro area public school divisions and one private school. It’s named after Agnes Meyer, a supporter and defender of education and the wife of Eugene Meyer, who purchased the Washington Post in 1933.
