Mason Boys and Girl’s Hoops Teams Cruise in First Round of Bull Run Tourney

Mustangs blow out Rappahannock in doubleheader.

The boys and girl’s basketball teams beat visiting Rappahannock High in the first round of the Bull Run District Tournament Friday night.

The girls played in the first game and won 59-16. In the second game, the boys won 82-30, making 15 three pointers along the way including an unlikely one by senior Stephen Lubnow in the third quarter.

“During halftime warm ups I made six of seven three pointers,” Lubnow said. “The ball was coming off the hands nice.”

Both the boys and girl’s teams are the top seeds in the tournament after winning Bull Run District regular season titles.

Lauren Kane said it’s good being done with the regular season. The senior forward scored a game high 14-points.

“We just went out and played our game,” she said.

FREE THROWS

Nate Ogle scored a game high 15-points for the boys and fellow senior Philippe Griffiths scored 13-points including a dunk. Jeremy Stewart scored 10-points and four other Mustangs scored 6-points apiece.

For the girls, Ashley Alexander scored 9-points and senior Leah Roth scored 8-points.
