MEH Students, Advisor Honored at Virginia National History Day

MEH National History Day advisor, Rory Dippold was named the Virginia National History Day Teacher of the Year for middle schools.

Four Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School students have advanced to the national finals of the National History Day competition in June. They are among seven Huskies who participated in the Virginia State National History Day (NHD) Competition on Saturday in Williamsburg, VA.

In addition, MEH National History Day advisor, Rory Dippold was named the Virginia National History Day Teacher of the Year for middle schools.

The students medaling in the statewide NHD competition this past weekend are:

  • Miles Lankford - 1st place in the Individual Performance category with his project about the Detroit Race Riots of 1967
  • Yael Cohen, Estelle Timar-Wilcox, and Cindy Lay - 1st place in the Group Documentary category with their project on Rachel Carson 
  • Yael Cohen, Estelle Timar-Wilcox, and Cindy Lay - The Burnshire Hydroelectric Award for Environmental Consciousness (includes a special monetary award)
  • Annette Schlitt - 3rd place in the Individual Website category with her project on Nellie Bly

The 1st place winners will now advance to the National NHD competition in College Park, MD from June 15 - 19.
