Mustangs Ready for James River-Buchanan

Mason arrives at VCU ready to play.

As the Mustangs motored to the Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond from dinner, sophomore Rand Walter entertained the team with original songs he sang over his guitar. As Walter strummed the guitar and belted out melodious tunes, his teammates encouraged him to continue and erupted in loud cheers when he finished his set.

“I’m not really nervous,” said Walter, a first year player on the Mustang’s varsity team. “I’m just excited. It’s a good experience.”

Head Coach Chris Capannola said he was glad to see his team ready to play. He said he didn’t think they would be nervous, but then again, the team hasn’t stepped on the court yet.

“We have some time before the game starts to just relax and prepare,” Capannola said. “We didn’t out anything new in.”

The Mustangs tip off at 9 p.m. against James River-Buchanan High in the semifinal round of the Virginia High School League.
