Mustangs Ready for Regional Play in VHSL Hoops Tournament

Girl's top seed in Region B, boys second seed in same region.

The road to the state championship for the boys and girl’s basketball teams from George Mason High starts this week.

Both teams will be in Region B of the Virginia High School League’s tournament. The boys tip off Tuesday against Randolph Henry High and the girls play Wednesday against Goochland High. Both games will be at home and start at 6 p.m.

Chris Capannola, head coach of the second seeded Mason’s boy’s basketball team said he doesn’t know much about Randolph Henry (13-9 in the regular season). Capannola, two-time Bull Run District Coach of the Year, said Randolph Henry played in a lot of close games and as a seven seed they could be dangerous.

“We don’t know much about them but they come to us,” Capannola said. “That should help us.”

The boy’s have a 22-4 record and won both the Bull Run regular season and district tournament titles.

LaBryan Thomas said when you get to this point of the season, you have to concentrate on what you have done all year offensively and defensively. Thomas, the reigning four-time consecutive Bull Run Coach of the Year, said he will prepare his team for any scenario.

“We just do what we do best,” he said.
