Mustangs Win Fourth VHSL Wells Fargo Cup

Award given to school with the most championships won during the 2011-2012 academic year.

claimed their fourth Virginia High School League Wells Fargo Cup for Group A Wednesday.

The award is given to schools in the various groups that have achieved the best overall record in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) state-level competition in 27 sports. During the 2011-2012 academic year, Mason took home championship titles in girls and boys cross-country, girls’ basketball, girls’ soccer and boys’ tennis (singles, doubles, and team). The boys’ basketball team was the state champion runner-ups.

“Winning the Wells Fargo Cup in one year says a lot of players and coaches did a lot of great things,” said Tom Horn, athletic director at the school. “You can’t win it with one team.”
