SCOREBOARD: Mason Comes Up Short Against Strasburg

Undefeated Strasburg squeaks by Mustangs 38-20

The undefeated Strasburg High Rams (6-0) and star running back Rakwon White didn’t intimidate the George Mason Mustangs (0-6) on the field Friday night.

The Mustangs kept up with the Rams early in the game ending the half tied at six all before Strasburg burst out of the gate taking the Bull Run District game 38-20. Mason running back Connor Rhodes powered up the gut to put the Mustangs on the board first five minutes into the second quarter.

Just before the end of the half, Strasburg tied the game up at six all when quarterback Troy Gordon connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass with receiver Colt Cowgill.

The Rams charged out of the gate in the third quarter scoring 24 unanswered points on a 40-yard run by White, a short scamper by Gordon and Gordon connected on a 53-yard touchdown to Shawn Owens.

Mason scored twice in the fourth quarter on a 19-yard pass from Grant Hagler to Jake Eye and a 23-yard trot by Dmontae Noble with just over a minute left in the game.

Mount Vernon High beat JEB Stuart 28-12; Washington-Lee High downed Falls Church High 34-8 and George Marshall lost on the road to Fairfax High 40-12.
