SENIOR STORIES: Gymnast Sets Bar High, Heading to Virginia Tech

Carrie Murphy succeeded in academics, athletics and community service at Falls Church High.

Carrie Murphy may only stand five-feet tall but she has set the bar high for herself.

The senior is heading to Virginia Tech in the fall on the Emerging Leader Scholarship for Corps of Cadets. Murphy has also earned the Wells Fargo Dependent Scholarship, and the Northern Virginia Region Cheerleading Coaches Association Scholarship.

A member of the Math, Music, Spanish, and National Honor societies, Murphy has been a captain of the varsity competitive cheer squad and the varsity gymnastics team. She served as a chair in the Leadership Council and organized more than 40 groups into a community parade, directing the Winter Pep Rally and helped make a memorial garden plan come to fruition in honor of a FCHS teacher who recently passed.
