Sewage Leak Closes Falls Church School for Second Time

Mary Ellen Henderson Middle is closed Wednesday. It was also closed in October for a sewage leak.

A sewage leak at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle in Falls Church has canceled classes at the school Wednesday.

Officials detected a sinkhole and outside sewage leak around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Work crews were unable to repair the leak Tuesday evening in time for the start of school Wednesday.

"We know this is enormously frustrating for our parents as it us for our staff.  While we explored all options, safety must come first," an emergency alert message from Falls Church City Public Schools said.

Staff from the school will report to the TLC in George Mason High by 8 a.m. Wednesday for a professional development day.

A sewage leak in October canceled classes as well.
