Super Bowl 2013: Falls Church High Coach Hopes Former Player Has Good Super Bowl

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was coached by Falls Church High School Football Coach Said Aziz in 2005.

Ask Falls Church High School Head Football Coach Said Aziz whom he thinks will win Super Bowl XLVII and he won’t hesitate to say it’s the San Francisco 49ers.

Aziz, however, does want his former Stafford High School player and now Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, to have a good game. In 2005 when Smith was quarterback at Stafford, Aziz was the offensive line coach and defensive coordinator.

“He was a really good kid,” Aziz said Friday. “I do want Torrey to have a good game.”

Aziz said he only coached Smith during the 2005 season at Stafford, the NFL star’s senior year. That year, according to the Ravens’ website, Smith ran for 815 and 12 TDs on 155 carries and also completed 9 of 25 passes for 230 yards and two more touch downs. Smith caught 49 passes during the regular season for 855 yards and scored eight touchdowns.

Aziz said he and Smith text occasionally and he’s proud of his former player. He said he wants to see Smith do well, but he believes the 49ers have a more athletic team.

“They [the 49ers] have a better defense and a more efficient run game,” Aziz said.
