Tax Free Back to School Items This Weekend in Virginia

August 5th-7th marks Virginia's sixth annual sales tax holiday weekend.

Virginia’s annual tax free weekend is set to bring back to school shoppers to retail stores early, this upcoming weekend, nearly a month before area students will return to classrooms.

“Oh yeah, it’s definitely going to bring people out this weekend,” said Billy Sekya, a manager at the Staples located on West Broad Street in the City of Falls Church. “We have a lot of good deals this weekend too, like a lot of dollar stuff so customers are walking into that along with the tax free weekend.”

From Friday morning through Sunday evening, Staples and other retail stores in Falls Church and around Virginia will eliminate the Commonwealth’s five percent sales tax on select items.

“We expect to see a lot of traffic this weekend,” said Sekya.

According to MyFoxDC.com, the tax free weekend is predicted to save Virginians $4.3 million.  Back to school supplies $20 or less and clothing items $100 or less qualify.

“Its early but it is cheaper than it will be when it gets closer to kids going back to school, so they might as well take advantage this weekend,” said Sekya.

This will be the sixth annual sales tax free weekend for Virginia.
