While the extreme cold temperatures moving through the area "are of concern to the well being of our students," infrastructure issues that developed Monday evening prompted FCCPS to make the decision to close schools Tuesday, according to a news release.

FCCPS noted that due to high winds and plummeting temperatures, leaks developed, reducing the heat output in a building and a number of cold-related issues with the FCCPS bus fleet "leave us no choice but to cancel classes."

The City of Falls Church government programs and services will be open as scheduled on Tuesday. This includes City Hall, the Community Center, the Mary Riley Styles Public Library, the DMV Select in City Hall, the Court Clerk, and more, according to a news release.

City employees may take unscheduled leave after checking with their supervisor, the news release noted.
