10-Year-Old's Race Finish Rejected in World Record Attempt

Rheinhardt Harrison had a remarkable finish at Alexandria Running Festival's half-marathon, but not a record breaker.

Young runners willing to commit to a trek of more than 13 miles are to be commended, regardless of how fast they finish. But Reinhardt Harrison, 10, of Falls Church, expected he had offered a finish for the record books. But he didn't.

At the Alexandria Running Festival's half-marathon last week, Reinhardt had a time of 1:35:02. According to The Washington Post, that's two minutes faster than the existing record for a 10-year old, set just a few weeks earlier.

Reinhardt told ABC News he wasn't even going at top speed, considering this a training run.

A course change after certification made the run ineligible for the record, but an even faster run by a 10-year-old was certified over the weekend, according to the Post.

Reinhardt still holds one record from a run early this spring. Read more about that in The Washington Post report.
