Mt. Vernon-Falls Church Field Hockey Wins Game of the Week

Thursday showdown selected from National District matchups to be featured on Patch

Mt. Vernon and Falls Church High School fans bolstered their field hockey teams this week, helping the Thursday faceoff win Patch's  "Game of the Week" poll for the National District.

In this week's poll, the matchup beat out cross country meets between Falls Church, Wakefield, Hayfield and Edison and Stuart, Mt.Vernon, Yorktown and Washington-Lee, respectively, and another field hockey matchup between Yorktown and Washington-Lee.

Mt. Vernon High (7-2-1) is off to a solid start this season, including a stellar performance in the "Under the Lights" tournament at Lee High School last month. Falls Church High School (1-7-2) posted its single win against Wakefield High on Sept. 6.

The game will be featured on Patch later this week.

Don't forget to tune in again Thursday, when we put the ball in your court again to determine the next Patch Game of the Week.

  • Each Thursday, Patch editors will pick a handful of matchups between National District schools scheduled for the next Monday through Friday.
  • Students, parents, teachers and other community members will have five days to vote for which game should be named "Patch's Game of the Week."
  • On Monday, the game with the most votes will win special coverage.

Voting begins at 5 a.m. Thursday and ends at 11:59 a.m. Sept. 24. Only one vote per user — tell your friends and family to log on to pick their favorite, too!

Jason-- You can certainly recycle your old TV at the semi-annual (twice-a-year) City of FallsRead More Church Recycling Extravaganza. Details are on the City's website at http://www.fallschurchva.gov/RE. The next event is Saturday, September 9. If you're hoping to recycle the TV before September, I recommend contacting eAsset Solutions, the City's partner for the Recycling Extravaganza (electronics-wise, anyway). Their website is http://www.eassetsolutions.com/. Good luck, and thanks for helping the environment! --City of Falls Church Office of Communications
