Registration Now Open for Mason District Little League

The next registration event is this Sunday, March 4 at Parklawn Elementary School.

Kids, get ready to grab your catcher’s gloves: registration for the Mason District Little League (MDLL) is open for spring 2012.

The MDLL is open to residents in Annandale, Alexandria and Falls Church. Boys and girls ages 4 to 12 can sign up to play teeball and baseball though the league. The teams play at various parks in Mason District, including , Parklawn Park and JEB Stuart Park.

The next registration and player assessment is at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 4 at Parklawn Elementary School.

According to MDLL President Toni Matheny, parents do not have to bring any particular documentation with them to register their child. Registration for the league ends on March 20.

According to a press release from the league, approximately 355 boys and girls participated in MDLL last year. The MDLL-Orioles had the most wins for the Majors with a 13-3 win-loss record. The MDLL-Pirates (7-7) and the MDLL-Red Sox (6-9) round out the top three Majors teams from last season. In the AAA Division, the MDLL-Cardinals led with a 10-1 win-loss record, followed by the MDLL-Tigers (6-6) and MDLL-Cubs (6-7).

The MDLL is a non-profit that’s run by volunteers and chartered by Little League Baseball, Inc. The purpose of the league is to “provide a safe and fun environment where boys and girls can learn the game of baseball and the skills to succeed.”

Opening Day for the MDLL will be April 14 at . The season ends of June 9.
