Stuart Blanked by Edison 15-0

Guedes makes 17 saves in losing effort

Despite hitting a cold streak late in the first quarter, Leo Guedes kept Stuart within striking distance of Edison for much of the early going of Thursday's match up. Unfortunately, the offense was unable to do its part, and the Raiders ended falling to the Eagles 15-0 in the final home game of the season.

Edison's Greg Smith scored three goals and led a late first quarter attack that extended the lead to 5-0 heading into the second quarter and put the game out of reach for the Raiders, who managed just one shot on goal. Guedes stopped six of the first eight shots he faced and made 17 saves total, but allowed goals on six straight shots spanning the first and second quarters, and a constant offensive onslaught by the Eagles proved to be too much to handle.

The Raiders' offense appeared to start clicking early in the second quarter, but they ended up settling for just a few long range shots that missed the net and were no trouble for Edison's goalkeeper.

Penalties also prevented Stuart from creating any meaningful chances. Ben Terhune took concurrent slashing penalties on two different occasions in addition to a push from behind, earning him an ejection.

Ethan Leventhal put himself in position to put Stuart on the board late in the fourth quarter when he made a move past a defender and was one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his shot was just wide to the left.

The loss drops Stuart, whose lacrosse program turned a decade old this year, to 2-6 on the year after a 2-2 start that included consecutive wins over Lee and Wakefield, the latter of which came via a 14-0 shutout. The Raiders wrap up the season at Mount Vernon on Friday. Stuart last beat the Majors in 2007.
