No Break From the Heat in Falls Church

Temperatures will hover around high 90s Friday, 100-plus Saturday.

As Falls Church residents get power back into their homes, the heat continues to be a constant.

According to the National Weather Service’s forecast for Falls Church, temperatures will reach 98 degrees Friday followed by 101 on Saturday. Sunday will still be hot with temperatures expected to be around 95 degrees.

Susan Finarelli, spokeswoman for the City of Falls Church, said the will remain open as a cooling center as long as people are without power in their homes and temperatures stay high.

“The community center will be open from 8 a.m. through 11 p.m. Friday for people to charge their phones if they don’t have power or just stay cool,” Finarelli said. “We will have an area for people to go in this heat.”

The city’s cooling center will also be open Saturday from 8:30 a.m. through 11 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. through 6 p.m. Metro has also given riders permission to trains and buses to help beat the heat through Sunday.

These high temperatures are moving in from the Midwest, where Chicago, St. Louis and other cities are also experiencing high temperatures.

“A huge area of excessive heat warnings and heat advisories have been issued across the Midwest...where the combination of high temperatures and dewpoints will bring heat index values into triple digits and make for extremely dangerous conditions,” according to an advisory issued by the National Weather Service. “As the ridge expands eastward over the next few days...much of the eastern third of the country will see a resurgence of the record-breaking heat experienced last weekend.”
