WEEK IN REVIEW: Gold Medalist, Guns Found and Losing Streak Ended

Another busy news week in Falls Church.

There’s a group of Falls Church residents who are on their way to the Olympics, or so they think, after working out with gold medalist Ashton Eaton on Saturday at 24 Hour Fitness. Eaton won the gold in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in the decathlon.

Those George Mason Mustangs won the homecoming football game Friday night to end a 14-game losing streak. The Mustangs beat visiting John Champe High 23-0.

City of Falls Church police reported that some guns stolen from a local gun shop have been recovered. There were a total of nine guns stolen in July burglary.

Police also released a picture of a man they believe stole several wallets from lockers inside 24 Hour Fitness and .

Plans to bring a Harris Teeter to the city are moving along. Council voted to sell the 1.3 acres of land the mixed use building will be constructed on.

Virginia Education Secretary Laura Fornash and some of her colleagues toured Falls Church City Public Schools Friday to see how the district was doing. Fornash made it to all four schools and met with students and teachers along the way.
