Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club Distributes Hundreds of Thanksgiving Dinners

On Saturday nearly 40 members of the Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club along with more than 100 J.E.B. Stuart Interact students helped to make Thanksgiving a bit happier for deserving families in the Bailey’s Crossroads area.

For nearly 30 years, the Bailey’s club has worked with the Safeway store at Crossroads Center Way to ensure the success of the Thanksgiving program. The store ordered the food and dinner boxes, provided the space to pack the boxes, and offered staff and management assistance. The store provided the food to the club at a discount.

Each box, which included a frozen chicken, had enough food to feed a family of four to six. This year, the club put together 100 dinner boxes.

Rotarians and Interact students worked together to pack the boxes. When all the boxes were packed, Rotarians drove the Interact students to the recipients' homes to deliver the food. The list of recipients was compiled by Michelle Wenz, Bailey's Elementary School social worker.

Rotarian David Kaye managed this year’s effort. Safeway store manager Nicole Bentley coordinated the effort for Safeway. Rotarian Jim Holcombe, Stuart teacher and Interact sponsor, along with Stuart counselor Gloria Rubin, managed the effort by the Stuart Interact Club.
