Falls Church is Thankful for: Its Volunteers

City Council declares Volunteer Appreciation Day.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the City of Falls Church Council and staff extended their gratitude this week to each of the City's hundreds of volunteers. In their honor, Mayor Nader Baroukh read a proclamation at Monday's Council meeting, declaring Wednesday, Nov. 27, as Volunteer Appreciation Day in the City of Falls Church:

"The volunteer groups in The Little City are an extraordinary force, making positive changes in our environment, our policies, our quality of life and more," said Mayor Baroukh. "I am incredibly grateful for all that they've done and continue to do - thank you volunteers."

From improving the look of the community at City-wide cleanups, to promoting the burgeoning arts district, volunteers provide all levels of aid to the community, a news release from the City reads.

Residents devote their time to many causes, some chose to give back by planting street trees to shade paved streets and reduce greenhouse gases, while others step up to educate and guide local youth through City-sponsored mentoring programs. The benefits of their work can be seen throughout the City's 2.2 square miles, in parks, local businesses, schools, City Hall and beyond.
