Playoff Games, Oklahoma!, 'E.T.,' Holiday Crafts + More

Lots going on this weekend — get out there and have some fun!

The weekend has arrived! Got plans?

Football fan? Go watch the Falls Church High Jaguars in their first playoff game since 1977 (The George Mason Mustangs play R.E. Lee High School in Staunton). 

Oklahoma! OK. The George Mason Drama Department will perform the musical this weekend. Here are all the details.

Rock 'n Roll. Cherie Currie performs Saturday night at The State Theatre. She fronted the girl group The Runaways, authored a best-seller that spawned a movie starring Dakota Fanning  as herself. And she's also a chainsaw artist. Show is early -- doors open at 5, show starts  at 6 p.m. Tickets and more details on the State Theatre's Web site.

Holiday Crafts. The City of Fairfax Parks & Recreation Department welcomes you to their 27th annual Holiday Craft Show, Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 3pm at Fairfax High School, 3501 Rebel Run in Fairfax.  Artisans from all over the United States, including many local artists, are participating in this year’s show to offer wonderful holiday gift choices. Take a rest during the show to enjoy a hot lunch. Admission: $5 per day or $8 for a two-day pass. No charge for children under 18 years.

Steven Spielberg Film Festival. In honor of Steven Spielberg, the Foundation for the National Archives’ 2013 Records of Achievement Award Recipient, the National Archives in DC is showing four of his feature films: Saving Private Ryan (November 15); E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (November 16); Amistad (November 16); and Lincoln (November 18).


Two Pieces. Catch an early show, or take your time on that tough commute. Andrew Belle + Leagues perform two shows Friday night. Belle is touring in support of his new album, “Black Bear,” and the single “Pieces.” From $15. 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday. Jammin Java, 227 Maple Avenue E., Vienna. Jammin' w/ The Smithsonian: Rolie Polie Guacamole. All ages (family-friendly event). 10:30 a.m. Saturday also at Jammin' Java (see address above). Rolie Polie Guacamole is a hip "kindie" band. Their high-energy, interactive shows are a mix of funk, rock and folk music mashed into original tunes about natural living, eating healthy and staying active. Advanced tickets recommended. 

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Kids ages 4+. 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. When four children stumble upon an old wardrobe, little do they know they will enter the magical world of Narnia. Full of mystical creatures, talking animals and great escapes, this action-packed story shares the triumph of good over evil. Buy tickets online. Thomas Jefferson Community Theatre, in Arlington


Rock Royalty. Lisa Marie Presley brings her Southern rock sound to the Wolf Trap. The performance is sure to include music from her 2012 release, “Storm & Grace.” $40. 8 p.m. Saturday. The Barns at Wolf Trap, 1635 Trap Road, Vienna. See the complete Wolf Trap schedule.

Voices on the Stage. The audience at the Workhouse this weekend will get a special preview of the latest work from playwright God’s Boo. Actors will give a staged reading of  “Choose!!” The play centers on a church congregation held hostage. $10. 8 p.m. Saturday. Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Road, Lorton. Thankful Little Engine. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and Lake Fairfax Park is offering an early dose of family fun. Kids can Ride the Turkey Train, learn Native American hunting skills and make a Thanksgiving craft to take home. $5. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive, Reston. All Over the Map. Music students and enthusiasts are going to get quite the lesson this weekend. World Blues at George Mason University features music legend Taj Mahal, performing soulful tunes from across the globe with some friends. From $23. 8 p.m. Friday. Dr. Do-a-Tour. Inova Medical Group is hosting an open house for its new Fairfax facility. Meet physicians, take a tour and some snacks and refreshments. 5-7 p.m. Thursday. 10530 Rosehaven St. #100, Fairfax.
