Great Turkey Burgers for the Grill

Turkey Burgers

Ingredients

  • 1 pounds ground turkey breast
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 large shallot or 1/4 red or yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme leaves or 1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves or parsley
  • 1/2 small bell pepper, green, red or yellow, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 T ground cumin, more if you really like it a lot
  • several drops cayenne hot sauce,
  • 2 teaspoons grill seasoning blend (recommended: Montreal Steak Seasoning by McCormick which we love but you can use salt and pepper
  • Vegetable oil or olive oil, for drizzling
  • 1 jar of sweet relish - optional
  • 4 crusty kaiser rolls, split
  • Red or green leaf lettuce

Chop your garlic and veggies.

Combine ground turkey, garlic, shallot or onion, thyme, cilantro or parsley, bell pepper, jalapeno pepper, cumin, hot sauce, grill seasoning or salt and pepper. Divide mixture into 4 equal mounds then form meat into patties.  Make an indent in the center of each burger which will keep the burgers nice and flat.  Drizzle patties with vegetable oil to coat on both sides which will keep them moist and keep them from sticking on the grill. Grill outside over medium high flame for 5 to 6 minutes on each side..

Pile cooked burgers into buns. Spread sweet relish on bun tops and set red leaf lettuce into place, using the relish as glue. Top burgers with lettuce. Then serve with tortilla chips and tossed salad
