Virginia voters wishing to cast an absentee ballot would still be required to give a reason. The proposed bill is heading to the Virginia House of Delegates.
A bill designed to alleviate privacy concerns about the absentee voting process could be heard by the full House of Delegates as early as Tuesday. The legislation would still require a person to give a valid reason to vote absentee, but certain personal information would no longer be required on the application. "It's important that we not set up artificial roadblocks to voting absentee," said Democratic Sen. Adam Ebbin, the bill's sponsor. "While some of my colleagues seem to not want to make it easier to vote, I was happy that we are removing an unnecessary roadblock — or, an unnecessary invasion of privacy." Victim in house fire still not identified.
Hurricane turned Super Storm Sandy made her way through Falls Church early in the week and topped our headlines. The storm left some Falls Church customers without power but Dominion Power restored power to the area. Some people found ways to entertain themselves while their power was out. The storm didn’t stop people from getting out and voting as some Falls Church residents made it out Monday to cast their in-person absentee ballots. There are no hotdog carts in the City of Falls Church but a new restaurant is changing that. The Windy Apple brings the best of Chicago and New York-style hotdogs under one roof to bring that hotdog cart feel to “The Little City.” Fairfax County Fire and Rescue are still investigating a Falls Church fire …

City voting office remained open so those doing in-person absentee voting could cast votes.
Jacquelyn Sickler won’t be home on Nov. 6 to vote on Election Day. Sickler, of the City of Falls Church, said she will be out of town and because of it, she was one of the many people who ventured out to the city’s voting office to cast her absentee vote. “I’m supposed to be going out of town around Election Day,” said Sickler. “I wanted to make sure my vote counted.” Besides the voter registrar office in Loudoun County, the one in Falls Church is the only other open Monday in Virginia, said David Bjerke, general registrar for the City of Falls Church. If you've got a valid excuse, you can vote before Nov. 6 in person at the elections office, at satellite offices or by mail.
The election is Nov. 6 but if you're not going to be here, don't sweat it. You can vote absentee. Absentee voting begins Friday for Fairfax County residents. You have the option of showing up in person at the Office of Elections starting Friday, mailing in your ballot, or visiting a satellite voting office around the county (these open Oct. 17).
