Anglican Parish Appeals Fairfax Court Decision

The Falls Church Anglican doesn’t believe ruling that forfeited approximately $2.8M was constitutional.

The Anglican parish that was forced out of The Falls Church filed a petition for appeal with the Virginia Supreme Court Friday. The parish left the church May 15 after Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Randy Bellows told The Falls Church and six other congregations in the Northern Virginia area in December to give their church property to the diocese they divorced years ago. The 113-page ruling came after almost five years of litigation and hundreds of thousands of dollars in congregation-donated defense funds. The petition requests the court review a number of legal and constitutional grounds, according to a statement released Friday. A senior member of the congregation could not be reached for comment. WEEK IN REVIEW: Two Falls Church Schools Honored

As two area schools are honored as being amongst the top three in Virginia, a church congregation exits its’ building.

Last week saw two Falls Church area schools honored for their academic achievements and celebrated their state and national rankings. Separated by a couple miles along State Route 7, George Mason and George Marshall high schools earned second and third best in the state rankings respectively in the U.S. News and World Report “America’s Best High Schools,” released last week. Anglican worshipers at The Falls Church held their last service in the sanctuary Sunday and must be out of the building by Tuesday in accordance with a court ruling. Women of the Blues opened over the weekend at Creative Cauldron and will run through May 20.
