WEEK IN REVIEW: President Obama Stops by Falls Church

Falls Church dealt with death of a local college student who was a JEB Stuart High alum.

President Barack Obama made his way to Falls Church last week to meet with a family to discuss how the “fiscal cliff” would affect them. The president also filmed the meeting to serve in part of his efforts to sway public opinion and pressure Congress to come to a resolution. The Falls Church and JEB Stuart High communities were devastated to learn of the death of University of Virginia senior Casey Schulman. Schulman was killed in a snorkeling accident while participating in the Semester at Sea program. For a second time this year, a sewage leak canceled classes at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. Falls Church City Public Schools officials said the two leaks were not connected and they will keep a close check on the sewage system …

Friends Remember Casey Schulman

High school friends recall optimism, warmth and love of fallen friend.

Falls Church and University of Virginia communities were devastated Saturday after learning they had lost an invaluable member with the death of Casey Schulman. Schulman, 22, a 2009 graduate of J.E.B. Stuart High and fourth year student at UVA, was studying abroad with the Semester at Sea program when a boat struck her while she was swimming off the coast of Dominica. No funeral arrangements have been made as of yet. While the story can be found on The Washington Post, Patch wanted to give some of Casey's friends a chance to elaborate on how much of an impact she had on their lives.
