The Washington Redskins face the Seattle Seahawks this weekend in one of four NFL wildcard games.
The Washington Redskins have spent since 2007 traveling the road back to the NFL playoffs -- but it's been a heck of a ride. Next stop: Sunday's wildcard game against the Seattle Seahawks. All this hailing to the Redskins should seem familiar. In 2007, the Redskins also made the 2007 NFL playoffs as a wildcard team. And, just like this year, that 2007 playoff game was against the Seattle Seahawks. Let's hope the similarities end there, because the Seahawks won the last time around. Another busy news week in Falls Church.
There’s a group of Falls Church residents who are on their way to the Olympics, or so they think, after working out with gold medalist Ashton Eaton on Saturday at 24 Hour Fitness. Eaton won the gold in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in the decathlon. Those George Mason Mustangs won the homecoming football game Friday night to end a 14-game losing streak. The Mustangs beat visiting John Champe High 23-0. City of Falls Church police reported that some guns stolen from a local gun shop have been recovered. There were a total of nine guns stolen in July burglary. Police also released a picture of a man they believe stole several wallets from lockers inside 24 Hour Fitness and made $15,000 in purchases using stolen credit cards. As the cool…

Clare & Don’s Beach Shack adds heat to ‘The Little City.’
Temperatures may be dropping but it’s never too cold to go to the Clare & Don’s Beach Shack in Falls Church. Open for about eight years – the first five and a half years in Clarendon and that rest in Falls Church – the beach shack serves up seafood, which ironically is somewhat how the name came to be. “My friend Tom Fairchild had two fish,” said Rebecca Tax who co-owns the beach shack with her brother David. “One was named Clare and the other was Don.” The Tax siblings have been in business together for about 17 years, first opening Lazy Sundae in 1996. Families and vendors all converged on Cherry Hill Park Saturday for the Fall Festival and Taste of Falls Church.
The young and old all found something fun and something yummy at the 37th Annual Taste of Falls Church at the Fall Festival. Temperatures in the low to mid 70s helped get dozens of people out to Cherry Hill Park Saturday. Vendors, including Argia’s, Pizzeria Orso, Clare & Don’s Beach Shack, Mad Fox Brewing Company and more set up booths to prepare samples from their menus. Pony rides and a moon bounce kept kids busy and little boutique booths offered clothing, knick-knacks and jewelry for moms. Check out some of the sites from the festival.

Falls Church isn’t on the water, but where is the best seafood restaurant in town?
I love seafood and I know I am not alone. When I lived in West Texas, I was surprised to find a great seafood restaurant because we weren’t anywhere a body of water. Since Falls Church is a lot closer to the water than my former Texas address, I am certain there are a few spots that serve up some awesome seafood. If you know where those places are, speak up!
