Last month, Patch asked our readers in Northern Virginia for a favor. We wanted to submit questionnaires to both U.S. Senate candidates in Virginia and we wanted our readers to come up with the questions. You all delivered. Patch posed a list of 10 questions to former governors and U.S. Senate candidates Tim Kaine (D) and George Allen (R), ranging in topics from Social Security to drug abuse in high schools. The Florida senator campaigned with Allen at a small flower shop in Arlington on Thursday morning.
George Allen got help from one of the brightest young stars in the Republican party on Thursday morning. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio publically endorsed Allen, a former U.S. senator and governor, in the Virginia U.S. Senate race, calling it one of the most important congressional races this year. Allen will face off in the general election against former Gov. Tim Kaine for the Senate seat which will be vacated by Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) who announced last year he will not seek re-election. Rubio's endorsement, staged at Company Flowers in North Arlington, comes just days after Allen clinched the Republican nomination in a four-way party primary with 66 percent of the vote.
