Mason District Station Officer Long "Junior" V. Dinh was injured in a head-on car crash in February.
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 77 will host a fundraising event Sunday for Mason District Officer Long V. Dinh Jr.'s rehabilitation fund. Dinh was injured in a head-on collision crash in February and was hospitalized for most of last month. All are welcome to attend the fundraiser, which will be Sunday at Hard Times Cafe located at 4069 Chain Bridge Road, in Fairfax from noon to 7 p.m. There will be food specials and a raffle during the event. Hard Times will donate a portion of the night's sales to Dinh and his family. Fairfax County Police said man called bomb threat in by telephone.
Fairfax County Police charged a Herndon man with making a bomb threat following an alleged shoplifting in Merrifield. The man is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center with no bond. Police were called to the 2900 block of District Avenue around 9 p.m. Sunday for a report of two men shoplifting. One of the men, a 29-year-old Herndon man, was detained by security and charged with grand larceny. According to a press release, the second alleged suspect, a 30-year-old Herndon man, was able to make it outside and allegedly called in a bomb threat to the business. There were no other details about the incident.

Police have issued a felony warrant for Rebecca Serafin, who allegedly fled the state with her son.
Fairfax County police said they have confirmed a sighting of Rebecca and Cameron Serafin at an airport in Birmingham, Ala. Investigators have been looking for the Fairfax County mother and her 5-year-old son since last week, when Rebecca Serafin did not return the boy to his father's home as scheduled. The boy's photo was disseminated throughout the greater Washington area. As a result of the confirmed sighting in Alabama, which happened Friday, police have obatined a warrant charging Rebecca Serafin with felony parental abduction, accoring to a news release. The lack of merit increases makes life harder for the department’s new talent, employees said Thursday night.
Fairfax County public safety employees advocated for better pay on Thursday during the final public hearing on the county’s fiscal year 2014 budget. County Executive Ed Long’s budget proposal does not include pay increases for county employees, nor does it fund merit increases for public safety employees. Earlier in the week, county employees made their dissatisfaction heard. On Thursday night, police officers and firefighters joined them. The “Striving for a Healthier Way” Prevention Conference focuses on deterring middle school-aged students from using drugs and teaches them to manage stress.
Fairfax County Police along with other community groups will join the Unified Prevention Coalition [UPC] of Fairfax County at Falls Church High School on Saturday for the “Striving for a Healthier Way” Prevention Conference. Anna Pilger, an 18-year-old Madison High School student, is without her medication and police are concerned for her welfare, they say.
This article has been updated. The Fairfax County Police Department is looking for an 18-year-old woman who disappeared during a Tuesday appointment in Falls Church. A release from the department on Thursday asks the public's help in finding Anna Pilger, of Vienna, who was apparently at an appointment around 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 2900 block of Sleepy Hollow Road in Falls Church when she fled. She disappeared into the woods near Castle and Nicholson roads, police said. Five-year-old Cameron Serafin was supposed to return Sunday to his father in Great Falls. But he never came home, say Fairfax County police, who asked for the public's help Thursday in finding the missing child. According to police, Cameron is believed to be with his mother, Rebecca Serafin, 32. Serafin was supposed to return the child to his father on Sunday. A warrant has been issued for Serafin’s arrest on charges of custodial interference, a misdemeanor, police said. Detectives say they have reason to be concerned about the boy's welfare. Alcohol and speed were not a factor in the accident in the 5800 block of Leesburg Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads.
Fairfax County Police are investigating an accident that left a 54-year-old Falls Church man dead Thursday night. Around 10:50 p.m., a vehicle hit Herman Bartlett as he walked across the street in the 5800 block of Leesburg Pike. Lucy Caldwell, a police spokeswoman said Bartlett was rushed to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Caldwell said the driver of the car stayed at the scene and no charged are pending. She also said speed and alcohol were not a factor. The accident comes as the Fairfax County Police Department begins their annual pedestrian safety enforcement and springtime education initiatives. The Fairfax County Police Department's Victims Services Unit will host its first-ever 5k walk to raise awareness about crime victims in the county, and to honor 2013 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the police department announced recently. The free event is hosted by the Victims Services Section of the Fairfax County Police Department and the Fairfax County Law Enforcement Foundation. Fairfax County Police continue to investigate the crash. Man suffered non-life threatening injuries.
A McLean cyclist remains hospitalized after he collided with an SUV in Falls Church Wednesday night. The 33-year-old man was riding his bicycle along Peabody Drive heading into oncoming traffic around 9:30 p.m. when collided with a 2004 Chevy Tahoe driven by 49-year-old Falls Church man, Fairfax County Police said. The two made contact when the SUV made a right hand turn onto Peabody Drive from Griffith Road. The cyclist was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police continue to investigate the crash. The cyclist was not wearing a reflective vest and his bicycle did not have lights. Charges have not yet been filed in the case.
